Preservatives & Antioxidants

We would all like to make our products without preservatives, but preservatives are required to keep water-based products fresh and free of bacteria. Bacteria, molds and yeast require water to grow so if you have a water/oil emulsion adding a preservative is a good idea.

Some products do not have water, but they are used in the shower and the possibility of introducing water is great. Adding a preservative is a good preventive measure to ensure the life of the product.

We have included products in this section that are not preservatives, but rather antioxidants. In the most fundamental meaning of the word preserve, they do qualify as preservatives because they preserve the quality of the product, but they will not prevent the growth of molds and bacteria. These are Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE) and Vitamin e.
